To conclude Jazel Villamarin’s two-year exhibition project, I Consume Therefore I Am, a special closing performance will be held on 1 December, Saturday, from 5 to 6pm in the building of Blanc Gallery in Makati City. The sunset celebration will be highlighted by a multimedia performance featuring Pundaquit Virtuosi in collaboration with Jazel Kristin.

The Pundaquit Virtuosi will be putting music to Jazel Kristin’s video “Je Consomme Donc Je Suis”, which was first shown in Paris, France as the product of a residency program she attended in Cité Internationale des Arts. The video was also shown in Baguio City, Philippines for the first AX(is) Festival.

The four Pundaquit Virtuosi, Julian Duque (violin), Kianne Esteban (violin), Isaiah Lipana (violin), and Remed Soriano (viola) are young music prodigies of Casa San Miguel, a world-renowned cultural enclave hidden in Zambales City. In early 2012, Jazel Kristin was asked to hold a workshop for the students of Casa San Miguel. It was here that she discovered a love for music, particularly the violin. She was then invited to be one of their artists-in-residence, which allowed her to finally complete her works for I Consume Therefore I Am.

This special performance will begin at exactly 5pm, and will be held in the outdoor pool area at the ground floor of Crown Tower along H.V. dela Costa Street in Salcedo Village, Makati City. The video to be shown contains sensitive images and is not suitable for children’s viewing.

I Consume Therefore I Am is on view at Blanc Gallery until 2 December 2012.

Guest Speaker:

JAZEL KRISTIN
Born and raised in the Philippines, JAZEL KRISTIN (JK) comes from a family of photographers. But wanting to be different, she tried to stay away from photography… She dabbled in theater as a resident actor at the Metropolitan Theater, tried her hand at songwriting and joined KATHA (organization of music composers), performed her own songs at artists’ havens such as 70’s Bistro and the legendary Club Dredd, made a short film at Mowelfund film school and joined Probe Productions as a video editor/cinematographer.

Pursuing her passion for moving pictures, she moved on as a Director, Camerawoman and Edit Supervisor for Philippines’ leading television documentary program called I-Witness on GMA-7 and other documentary projects. She also created a documentary on the making of Isa Lorenzo’s Filipinas exhibit (shown around Asia & Europe).

But taking photos was in her blood, she mounted her first photography exhibit in Manila. Spurred on by its success, she eventually fused her passions in music, video and still pictures. Her multimedia exhibitions have been shown around the Philippines, Hong Kong and France. She’s been featured in I-MAG Photography Magazine, some French publications and on Philippine television.

JK concluded her Artist Residency at Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris in 2010 and is currently a Visual Consultant for television.

ART IN THE PARK 2012

It was my first time to be a part of this event and I truly had a blast! Aruruteynkyu to Resurrection Furniture and Found Object Gallery for the invitation. Looking forward to the next one 🙂

PARALLEL UNIVERSE – Centre Les Recollets, Paris

PARALLEL UNIVERSE – MJC, Aubagne (France)

Multi-media artist JAZEL KRISTIN brings to France an exhibit bursting with color and humor. Her quirky one-of-a-kind photo collages upturn conventional ideas and fuse together opposing worlds. Her style builds on the basic idea of cut-and-paste, allowing viewers to experience layers of color, shape and even sound.

For her maiden exhibit in France, the artist captures the experience of living in two worlds, a journey that begins in the Philippines, her home country, and heads to France, an unfamiliar place where she falls in love, tries to fit in and finally finds herself living in a Parallel Universe.

Disregarding time and space and the conventions of perspective and gravity, Jazel Kristin’s handmade single-edition images brings her viewers into her universe, a place not quite like her home but feels like it in the blending of cultures and viewpoints.

Each artwork is uniquely made, with the use only of glue, scissors and the occasional coloring materials.

Jazel Kristin has displayed her works at the SilverLens, Penguin Gallery, Black Soup Gallery, Alliance Francaise de Manille and VOCAS (Victor Oteyza Community Art Space) in the Philippines. SilverLens represented her art works at last year’s HK ART FAIR at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. Her works were recently featured in Design for Mankind’s Inspiration E-Zine and Blanket Magazine.

April & May 2009, Jazel Kristin will be at Cite des Arts, Paris for an Artist Residency through the Mairie de Paris.
